Autumn Walk 2008
|
|
Seventeen members and friends participated in this years Fugelmere Autumn Walk which took place on Thursday, 16th October. Enthusiastically led as ever by Bob Rose, the walk started out at 10am from the Leather Bottle at Mattingley where we planned to return for lunch. The weather was on its best behaviour with the bright autumnal sunshine bringing the best out of the countryside particularly the colourful trees. However the previous day had been wet so we did meet some muddy patches, but generally it was dry underfoot. From time to time Bob stopped to give background information on points of interest that we passed, highlights being West Green House, once the home of Lord McAlpine, which was bombed by the IRA causing considerable damage and the beautiful Mattingley church, a lovely 14th Century building, constructed of bricks laid in a herringbone pattern within a timber frame. The walk ended with a good lunch at The Leather Bottle. |
